National Award is the most dominant Award extends by India Government entirely designed for Indian Arts and Cultural arena. National award mainly focuses on Indian Cinemas, and the first declaration of National Award comes from 1954. The National Award ceremonies held’s in New Delhi’s Vignyaan Bhavan and the Award Distributions are within the right and control of honourable Indian President. We have to meet the Malayalam films which were obtained National Awards. It was in the year 1954, Malayalam cinema gets first feature film award and the film was “Neelakkuyil”directed by P.Bhaskaran and Ramu Karriat. Chandrathara productions was the banner produced Neelakkuyil. Urub and P. Bhaskaran were the script writers, and P.K. Pareekkutty was the producer.
The main characters in Neelakkuyil are Sathyan, Miss.Kumari and P. Bhaskaran etc. A. Vincent was the cinematographer. The music composer was K. Raghavan and the film achieved the Silver medal for the best Malayalam feature film (1954). At the same year, there was another Malayalam movie “Sneha Seema” also achieved (1954) a National Award, G.S Rajan was the director and the producer T.E Vasydevan , Script: Ponkunnam Varkey, Music:V.Dakshina Moorthy and the hero was legendary actor Sathyan, and padmani was the heroine, while Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair played an important role.
Abhaya Dev was the lyrics writer and then three years in 1957 the film Paadaaththa Painkili also achieved the best feature film National Award and the producing banner was Neela productions and director was P. Subramanyam. Prem Nazir was the hero and Miss. Kumari and Shanthy were the heroine in the movie. And in the year 1958, the film Naayaru Pidichcha Pulivaalu,achieved the 4th best feature film National Award .P.Bhaskaran was the director and T.E Vasudevan produced the movie and in the film Sathyan was the hero and Ragini as heroine.At the same year 1958, the film “Randidangazhi” achieved a Best Feature film Award, Neela productions was the produced banner, directed by P. Subramanyam. The star cast includes P.J.Antony, Miss.Kumari, Thikkurisshi , Kottarakkara etc.
In the year 1959, a film “Chathurangam” in Malayalam, achieved the best Feature Film National Award and the directors of the movie are J.D Thottan and D.V.Swamy, the producer was Capt.Dr. G.T Joshwa and star cast in the movie:Prem nazir, Sathyan and Miss.Kumari etc. And, then in the year 1961, a film “Mudiyanaaya Puthran” under the production of ChandraThara achieved the best Feature Film National Award, Ramu Karriat was the director and the hero artist was Sathyan, also Adoor Bhasi and P.J Antony were acted in the movie, Amabika was the heroine.
At the same year (1961) the film “Kandam Vecha Kottu” also achieved the National A, Modern Theatres was the produced banner, T.R. Sundaram was the director and it was the first colour movie(partial) in Malayalam and the acters in the movie are Thikkurisshi, Prem Navaz, T.S.Muththayya etc, in the same year 1961, another film (3rd) Sabari Mala Ayyappan achieved the National Award.
Director was K.Kuppuswamy, and the director of the movie: M.S, Sree Ramalu Naidu. And in the year 1962 also Malayalam film achieved a National Award, Puthiya Aakaasham Puthiya Bhoomi and the diresctor was M.S.Mani, producer T.E.Vasudevan and the main characters in the movies are Sathyan, Ragini, Vinodini etc.
Another film produced by T.R Raghavan and directed by K.S Anthony – film “Kalppaadukal” also achieved the Best Feature Film National Award in the same year 1962, the star cast in the movie: Prem Nazir, Sukumari, Nambiath etc. In the year 1963, there were three (3) National Awards came in to Kerala and all for Best Feature Film and it start with Ninamaninja Kaalppadukal, directed by N.N. Pisharody and Shobana Parmeshwaran Nair was the producer of the movie, the star cast in the movie: Prem Nazir, Ambika, Madhu, Sheela etc. Then for Doctor, a film produced by H.H. Ibrahim, and directed by M.S. Mani, the star cast: Sathyan and Sheela. And the 3rd film achieved the National Award is Kalayum Kaaminiyum , produced by P.Subramanyam and the star cast: Prem Nazir, Thikkurishshi , Kavioyoor Ponnamma etc. The director of the movie was the same P. Subramanyam , the producer. In the year 1968, there were 3 Malayalam cinemas achieved the National awards like, Kaalppadukal, Doctor, Kalayum Kaminiyum etc.
In the year 1964, there were 2 films achieved the National Awards for the best feature film and first one is “Aadya Kiranangal” and the director tof the movie was P. Bhaskaran, and the film produced by P. Bhaskaran and Abdulla. The star cast in the movie, and the actors who played important roles in Aadya kiranangal are Sathyan, Madhu, Ambika and K.R. Vijaya etc.
The scripting of Aadya kiranangal was handled by renowned writers Parappurath and Thoppil Bhasi etc. The second film achieved the best feature Malayalam film (1964) is Kudumbini and P.A.Thomas and J. Shashi Kumar were the directors. The film Kudumbini scripted by Kanam Ej and KG Sethunath etc. The star cast in the movie are Prem Nazir as hero and Sheela as heroine, and Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Adoor Bhasi etc.
The said two films Aadya Kiranangal and Kudumbini were the best Malayalam feature film Award achievers in the year 1964.In the year 1965, there were 3 Malayalam films achieved the best feature Film National Award, and they are Kaavya Mela, Odayil Ninnu and Murappennu etc. Kavya Mela is directed by M. Krishan Nair and the producer of the movie is T.E. Vasudevan, scripting by S.L.Puram Sadanandan and Prem Nazir was the hero where Sheela played as heroine,
next film was Odayil ninnudirected by K.S. Sethu Madhavan and R. Rama Swamy was the producer. The star cast in the movie: Sathyan, Prem Nazir, K.R. Vijaya, Kaviyoor Ponnamma etc. Then the third film was Murappennu directed by A.Vincent, scripted by M.T, Vasudevan Nair and Shobhana Parameshwaran Nair was the producer. The star cast in the movie played main characters’ are Premnazir, K.P. Ummer, Madhu, P.J. Antony, Sharada, Jyothi Lakshmi and Adoor Bhasi etc. Murappennu, the movie was the film version of M.T Vasudevan Nair’s short story Snehaththinte Mukhangal.
In the year 1966, the film Kunjhali Marakkar (only one film) achieved the best feature film award and the director of the movie was S.S.Rajan and the producer of the movie T.K Pareekkutty, scripted by K. Padmanabhan Nair and wonderful actor Kottarakkara Sreesharan Nair played the key role as Kunjahli Marakkar. Other star caste in the movie: Sukumari, P.K. Sathyapal, P.J. Antony and Jyothi lakshmi etc.
The film Kunjahli Marakkar was the story of a great Islamic patriotic personality fought against the British rulers.In the year 1967, the film Anweshichchu Kandeththiyilla achieved the best Feature Film National Award. P. Bhaskaran was the director and R. Raveendran Nair was the producer. The hero in the movie was Madhu, heroine K.R. Vijaya, and other star cast in the movie are Sukumari, Adoor Bhasi and Kaviyoor Ponnmma etc.
The film Adyaapika released in the year 1968 achieved the best feature film award in the year 1968 and Padmini was he heroine, the film was produced under the banner Neela productions and P. Subramanyam was the producer and director if the movie Adyaapika. Kaanam E.J was the script writer of the movie, the star cast: Padmini, Ramakrishna, Madhu, Thikkurisshi , Ambika and Kottarakkara etc.
In the year 1969, the film Adimakal received the best feature film National Award, the hero of the movie was Prem Nazir, and legendary actor Sathyan played an important role in the movie, Sheela and sharda were the heroines of the movie. The director of the movie was K.S. Sethu Madhavan. M.O Joseph was the producer of the film Adimakal. The scripting handled by Thoppil Bhasi and Pamman.The film Adimakal was a box office hit all over Kerala.<
The year 1970, a film Ezhuthaaththa Katha achieved the National Award for the best feature film , the director of the movie was A.B. Raj. Producer of the movie was T.E. Vasudevan, and the movie has three script writers like Jagathy N,K. Achari, E.P Kurian and P.R. Chandran etc. Prem Nazir was the hero in the movie and Sheela played the heroine character, besides Adoor Bhasi, Muthukulam Raghavan Pillai etc. were acted in the film.
In the year 1971, the film Karakaanakkadal obtained the Best Feature Film National Award, and K.S. Sethumadhavan was the director of the movie. Hari Pothen was the producer of the movie, scripting by Muttaththu Varkey and S.L Puram Sadanandan. The hero of the movie was Sathyan and Madhu played an important role in the movie, Jayabharathi and Kaviyoor Ponnamma are acted in the movie and the film Karkanakkadal was a best melodrama enriched with family problems.
