Call it the love for khaki or the eagerness to pull off power-packed performances in films, the fascination for cop roles only seems to be increasing among M-Town actors. Take a look at some of the recent hit films and you will find that some of the leading actors in the industry have donned the khaki, and the audience have lapped up their performances. Here is a peek into some of the Mollywood biggies in their cop avatar.
Prithviraj seems to be a director’s first choice when it comes to police officer roles. Since the star has played cop roles in 17 films so far, it won’t be an exaggeration to call him the favourite cop of M-Town! The actor will once again play a police officer in Dileesh Nair’s Tamar Padar. Dileesh says, “This is a fun film and he will be seen playing a cop once again in the film.”
Masala Republic saw Indrajith play SI Shambu, who is a part of the new anti-gutka squad formed to inquire about the use of gutka, a banned product, among migrants. His role of a rude and corrupt police inspector, Vattu Jayan, in Left Right Left was also well-received by the audience. He will don the uniform once again in Angels.
“It is very different from the cop roles that I have done so far. The subject is very realistic, so I decided to go ahead with it,” the actor had said during an earlier interview. Indrajith plays Hameen Hyder, an intelligent and successful investigative police officer, in the film. “However, certain incidents turn his life upside down and people start to consider him a loser,” the actor had said.
In Arun Kumar Aravind’s Ee Adutha Kalathu, he played an IPS officer who always looks for shortcuts to achieve success. He went on to do more cop roles, the latest being Lal Jose’s Vikramadithyan, in which he will play Vasudeva Shenoy, a Konkani police officer.
For the first time, the actor will be seen wearing the khaki in Ithu Thanda Police directed by Sugeeth. The movie will go on floors this year and is touted to be a perfect blend of action and humour.
In most of the films in tinseltown, the actor has either played a baddie or a police officer. He won a lot of praise for his stellar performance as a cop in the Aamir Khan-starrer Ghajini.
We also hear that the actor will play the role of Deputy Superintendent of Police Shaukat Ali, who nabbed the murderers of Marxist rebel T P Chandrasekharan. The movie titled TP 51 captures the personal and political life of the leader. The shoot is currently progressing at Onjiyam.
After playing run-of-the-mill roles in several films, Lena’s role of a firebrand IPS officer had won her rave reviews and appreciation. She will play a cop once again in Lal Jose’s Vikramadithyan. “It is unlike the cop role I played in Spirit; here I have to wear a sari and the film has lot of drama in it,” says Lena.
