Arjunan Pillayum Anchu Makkalum

Arjunan Pillayum Anchumakkalum (1997) is a Malayalam family movie. Directed by Chandrasekharan. Starring Innocent ,Jagathy Sreekumar ,Jagadeesh ,Sidhique ,Harishree Ashokan ,Charmila ,Kalpana ,Bindu Panicker & others. It’s a simple family movie. It has social tread to discuss. In most our families, the priority has given more to the Sons other than Girls. It’s kind of Gender discrimination. The present social paradigm is the root cause for it. Some parents think daughters as a burden. Dowry system is the hidden villain behind this crooked thoughts. In India the dowry system has been practiced as a custom, in which the parents of the bride offers money, gold and their properties together with their daughter. In another sense, a family is giving up all their life long earnings for the sake of their daughter, simply because they have a daughter. On the other hand the family of the Groom gets everything like a bonus. In addition to a new family member they gets money, gold and properties. Actually this has turned into the frames of business.Having a Son is good asset, but having a daughter is a total loss !!. But every one is forgetting an important aspect. A woman is the core light of a family. She is the guide, teacher, motivator, protector & creator of a generation. But in present society she is considered as commodity, a commodity of liability. With this mindset, people are so upset for having a daughter. Also we may not forget about molesters and womanizers in the society. If I have a daughter, I need to be more vigilant and careful. I need to sheer my eyes and ears around my daughter around the clock.
In this movie, this social paradigm has portrayed through a family story. Arjunan Pilla is the head of an aristocratic family. He has four daughters, Jayalakshmi, Jayaprabha, Jayasree & Sudha and one son, Ajayan. Like said above Arjunan pillai loved his son more than his daughters. He always showed that partiality from their childhood. Even if the daughter were upset about their father strange love. They showed no rage. Their mother always stood against this partiality. But Arjunan pillai always reminded her about the upcoming future. He always says, our daughters will leave us one day in that time only our son will be with us. So we must take care him well. He considered Ajayan as a long term fixed deposit and his daughter as a current deposit. His daughters are grown up now. And it’s time for marriage. Even if he had enough wealth and properties, he searched for Grooms with very low profiles. Sudhakaran who is a cook for Jayalakshmi, Thankakuttan who a third class corporation staff for Jayaprabha & Uthaman who is an Auto driver for Jayasree. Jayalakshmi & Jayaprabha were forced to marry them. But Jayasree insisted to take an interview. For that Uthaman was told to lie to her as the owner of a auto spares work shop. She got impressed in him and all three marriages occurred in the same day in the same arbour. But very soon Jayasree came to know that she has been betrayed. But since she already started to love Uthaman, she decided to be with him and they left the house. On the other hand Ajayan got a marriage proposal from Jubba Menon’s daughter, who was a business person. But at the marriage arbour he insulted Uthaman & his friends. Story winding turns into more complications, Ajayan betrays his father with properties and pulls him out from his home. The marriage of his sister,Sudha gets into disputes. But the three men army took it as a challenge. Now he movie goes into the climax. What will happen with Sudha? Will Arjunan Pillai realize the real truth of life? Have a look at it…
